New Baby
Around 30 years ago I was commissioned to paint a canvas to welcome a new baby to a family.
I talked to an Aboriginal elder who I had great respect for and he told me the dream story for a new baby that he was told many years before.
“A long time ago in the Dreamtime, all the spirit babies were gathered together and told to wait to be asked to come down to their families.
When a Mother to be, realized she was soon to have a baby, she was told by her elders to rest and dream about her new baby and that dream brings a spirit baby to her.”
The dots in a circular pattern represents a family.
The many white “c” shapes represent the spirit babies.
The larger green “C” shapes represent the parents to be.
The Kangaroo represents Happiness and the white spiral shapes are the Wind Spirit Guides.

The third design shows two families coming together in friendship or marriage, joined by the kangaroo totem for happiness. Again, the wind spirit is there so the happiness will not be lost.

The forth design is a family who has grown up children. They are making their own families but hold the original family values and share the same totems. Here we see the goanna(lizard) which represents pride and a kangaroo for happiness.
